Message I just spent part of this weekend doing this on Z-Lab. I did a crapload of searching and there's not a lot of info on it... because it's really pretty straight forward.

I ran out of time, so I just got the seat area cleaned out (mostly). It depends on how anal you want to be about it. Dr. Kuah's car is almost clinical. Mine? I got the job done.. get all that fuzzy carpet shit out of there that's stuck to the sound deadening material.

40lbs of dry ice and a solid day of working will get you there. Mine came in plastic bags about 5-9lbs per. get everything out of the way that you can before buying the ice (seats, etc). Get where you can open the doors and trunk full wide. Make sure you have a fan so you're not breathing the gases (suffocation hazard!) and have sufficient air circulation. Wear work gloves & safety glasses at all times. This stuff goes everywhere when it comes off & the gloves keep your hands insulated from the cold and tar shards as you work (you're shattering this stuff to some exent.

Start out on the passenger floorboard/footwell (no where else!). Put the bag on the material, smack it with a hammer some to spread out the ice in smaller chips in the bag. Let it sit for about 5 minutes or so. I never really timed it. Once I got my rotation going with 2 bags to chill/remove once I finished one area I move to the next. Move the bag to some other location. Smack the material with a dead blow hammer some. The I used a 1" metal putty knife w/ a ball peen hammer. Get under the edge and start hitting the putty knife with the hammer like a chisel. Stuff should start popping off the floorboard in fist size chunks. This is the basic routine & is pretty thorough.

I only did the floorboards, the trans tunnel, the rear bulkead because I ran out of time to mess with it. Here are some things to note:

1. Under the seats be careful. The material covers some holes and some spot welded panels. It's easy to get the putty knife hammered underneath these things. They are mostly on the center rib in the floorpan. There's also a lot of seam filler material to work with as well.. you'll be able to identify it pretty quick.

2. My driver's footwell was something else. Everything else would pop off pretty good, or at least reacted predictably. Whatever was on that side SUCKED! It crystallized but wouldn't pop off the paint. I had to use my air hammer set to LOW and just dig the stuff out of there. None of the other panels I did were like that. If I had started the process there, I would have stopped there as well & just gave up. It looks like S*** but my feet will get good traction on it.

3. The trans tunnel has adhesive all over it to hold the material in place before they baked it or whatever. This sucks to work with. I don't have a lot of patience lately, so I just wanted to get as much of the material off for weight and wasn't so concerned with complete cleaning.

I've got a pretty good boxful of this stuff out of there. I haven't weighed it yet, I might have 15lbs worth so far. If you're going to full weight reduction, go for it. If not... leave it the hell alone.
